Museo del vecchio mulino

Faithfully restored by a group of enthusiastic volunteers, the museum offers the possibility to learn about part of the pre-industrial period, discovering the operation of the hydraulic mill and the overall milling process, as well as representing a place of interest for enthusiasts of traditions and ancient crafts. The museum is divided into three sections: the first is dedicated to the mill and contains three millstones and the essential machinery for the production of flour; the second is ethnographic in character with the reconstruction of the shoemaker’s workshop and the presentation of old trades and provides important clues to the anthropic man-activity relationship and the environment; finally, the third is dedicated to natural sciences, referring instead to the role of dissemination centre for the botanical and mycological knowledge of the Museum: indeed, regular displays are organized in the exhibition areas on these themes. The Roccavione millstone mill belongs to a typology that refers to the oldest mills in history and is used above all for the grinding of seeds, pigments, colours, cosmetics and pharmaceutical products. The infeed material generally has a diameter of a few millimetres and the completed products are in the form of powder whose granules reach the size of about 100 μm. It is therefore pulverization.
