In the municipal administrative centre and in the hamlets there are now 8 fountains, or washhouses, which in past centuries played a fundamental role in the dynamics of daily life; the analysis of local toponymy allows to identify some toponyms that refer to water sources historically used by the population and located in the homonymous localities dispersed on the hill of Roccavione: Fontana Biasot, Fontana Fabrizio, Fontana d’Ara, Fontana Butterolo, Fontana Fredda.

Among the various fountains mentioned, one of the most interesting is the so-called Fontana dell’Asilo in which a basin from the Giardini dell’Ara, the green area located near the town on the crest of the Hill, is used. Of interest is also the washhouses of via 8 Agosto, it was in fact to the biasot that the women of the village went to wash their clothes and its closure therefore made the establishment of new washhouses necessary. In its present form the structure of the washhouses, composed of a rectangular concrete tank covered by a roof supported by two iron poles, dates back at least to the first decades of the twentieth century.

Like many medieval villages, the municipality of Roccavione faced the problem of the town’s aqueduct only in modern times, when, due to the repeated cases of cholera, the Town Council took the decision to replace the terracotta pipes, which were fed from a canal of the Gesso stream, with a new cast iron net that would have been fed by springs near the town. Until that time the fountains that developed in the municipal administrative centre and in the hamlets played a fundamental role in the household economy of the Roccavione families.
